Youth Leader Podcast Number 2 – chapter 5 of Deep Ministry in a Shallow World

Some of the topics covered in the book and podcast are “Scaffolding,” mentorship and D-Groups. This is where you, the youth leader, can respond the the reading and the podcast with any thoughts, ideas or stories. Open, healthy, discussion is encouraged so we can sharpen each others swords. Parents, feel free to respond if and when you catch up on the discussion. If you’d like to listen to the youth leader podcast feel free. The book we are reading is by Chap Clark and Kara Powell in case you’d like to buy a copy and catch up with some of the ministry philosophy we are covering. Again, we are reading a chapter each week, discussing it on the podcast, and coming to this parent blog with our thoughts and discussion.

We’ve added new links for the weekly podcasts (students and youth leaders). Or, go to itunes and type in Mike Maglish and all podcasts will appear. When you subscribe to a podcast it’ll automatically upload whenever you bring up itunes.

Simply leave a comment with any thoughts. Enjoy the book!

    God Bless,
    Mike

Youth Leader Podcast Number 3 – Chapter 6 of Deep Ministry in a Shallow World

So this week was about deep mentors. The book says in order to truly be a discipler you must be spending at least 10 hours a month with a student and at least 12 months with them. What has been your experience working with teens? Respond with your thoughts!!!

Youth Leader Podcast Number 4 – Chapter 8 of Deep Ministry in a Shallow World

Deep teaching… Our teaching needs to continue to develop and become “relevant” in the lives of teens. We had a great discussion in this weeks podcast that may have got you excited, may have frustrated you, or simply may be challenging you to wrestle more deeply with the idea of how we teach and why it may not be working. We invite you in the discussion at any point. Leave a comment and let’s talk about it.

So with this whole chapter 8… What a sad thing that our teens today feel like they have to be different people based on the environment they are in and the people that they are around. I hope and pray that they can be themselves when they are around us.

Well Said, Michelle. Our prayer is for them to feel at home here. We’ve GOT to be the salt and light. If we are not, how are we any different than the rest of the world? Keep up the great work, Michelle. And tell that husband of yours we want him as a youth leader as well :) .

Please excuse the lack of podcasts over the last two weeks. Vacation Bible School then a crazy week leading up to CIY. We won’t have one next week either due to CIY. Imagine 3 weeks without a podcast from Chris and I. I know… heartbroken!!!
